55th Ward Democrats assembled a team of 16 canvassers (plus three friends) to canvass the Ward. Our goal is to knock all Democratic doors at least once. To date, we have canvassed twenty-six of the twenty-nine divisions, and of course, plans are in the works to finish up the other three.
The response to our efforts has been heartening. There is a lot of enthusiasm to vote, and most voters are happy that someone from the party is knocking on their door.
Of course, I keep forgetting to get photos of the effort.
Our area is very Democratic, and the elected officials we have on the ballot for this cycle are heavily favored to win. And that’s great! We are happy to inform our neighbors of the good works undertaken by our current crop of elected officials. But this is also a “dress rehearsal” for coming years. 2027 could see some hard-fought skirmishes in city offices. and of course, there is the presidential in 2028. We will also have a U.S. Senator race on the ballot. Turnout will be extraordinarily important for those races, both in the Primary and General Elections.
I believe that the committee people of Ward 55 will be ready for this — and I am very proud of their efforts!
